"On Dumpster Diving"

Eighner made a good point when he said that students throw food away around breaks because they do not know whether it has spolied or will spoil before they return. From my experience, When I left for the Thanksgiving break the only thing that I may have thrown away was food that was in containers. I wanted to make sure that I brought enough containers home to put food in to bring back to Dillard with me. I don't think that Eighner is being to hard on the student because since it is daddy or mommy money the students decide not to take a chance.

"The Wife-Beater"

Yes, Smith should have spent more time in this essay. Smith essay was boring to me. I think Smith should have made her thesis clear and the points to suppport her thesis clear. I really don't think that she should have talk about a wife-beater shirt. I think she should have focus more on family violence. She could have talk about ways to prevent husband from beating their wifes.

"I Want a Wife"

Brady use a lot of important points to support her thesis. Brady says, "I want a wife who is sensitive to my sexual needs, a wife who makes love passionatelyt and eagerly when I feel like it, a wife who make sure that I am satisfied." When she made that point it open a lot of the reader's eyes. She made that point because she knew thats the way many husband felt. I consider this point as one of the best points.

"The Ways We Lie"

In paragraph 3, Ecrission says, "We lie. We all do." Later in the paragraph she comments, "Sure I lie, but it doesn't hurt anything. Or does it?" I feel that lying can get you through alot of things until the truth is known. I rather be hurt by the truth then to hear a lie that will hurt me even more when I find out the true.

Do you think this essay if Funny? Explain your reaction

I think this essay is funny and speaks the truth. Many students that think they are successful have cheated they way through school. Cheating may get you a good grade but it gets you nowhere in life. It's also funny because every example that the authors use is true.

Television: Plug-In Drug

What effects-positive or negativie- do you think television has had on your life? What would your life be like without it?

There alot of positves and negatives about television. The positives about television is that it lets you know about the world around you. Theres alot of educated television shows that people learn from. The negatives are that television takes away from studying or social activities. Television has had a good effect on my life. I love t.v especially Lifetime and USA. If there was no t.v I would be bored. When I'm depressed I watch to t.v to take my mind off things.

Journal Entry

I think that carrying a handgun was more safe for her. Hasselstrom had gain her confidence after the first time when she approach the men that were doing wrong on private land. I would have been scared to shot everyone but you have to do what you have to do to be safe. I would have did the same thing. She could have did something else besides caring a gun but nobody would have took her serious.

Combining the Pattern

The examples that they give in the story is clear about youth becoming thugs... When he said,"I recall the points at which some of my boyhood friends were finally seduced by the perceptions of themselves as tough guys". There are alot of young educated boys that turn into a dumb thug. As you walk down the street theres always young boys smoking and drinking everywhere you go. You barely see older boys cause the young boys have taken over the streets. I agree with everything he says about youth becoming thugs.

Would you ever get a tattoo?

I already have a tattoo. I decide to get a tattoo because I always wanted a tattoo. It wasn't because everybody had one it was because thats what I always wanted. When I was 16 years I was jealous cause my cousin had 3 and she was only 18 years old. I ask my mother and she told me no her exact words to me was "When you can sign for yourself". So when I made 18 I sign for myself me and my brother went together.

"The Storm"

The storm takes place through much of the story but the story title could also refer to Bobinot and Bibi.

Thinking about Your Own Use of Paragraphs

1. Many people are still based on sterotypical beliefs. 2.It is not fair for me to be looked at differently or judged based on someone else opinion. 3. However, in today's society many people use stereotypes as a way to be prejudiced towards other religions, ethnic backgrounds, appearances. 4. Although this can affect me in different ways, some find the light at the end of tunnel, and don't feed into the sterotypes.

Introduction Strategy

To start my essay, I would use strategy number 7. I would open my essay with a quotation. It would arouse interest; it can encourage your audience to read further. Many writers like to start with a good quote that sums up the points they discuss. The quote has to be clever. It goes without saying that it must have a real connection to the topic at hand. Good quotes should make an opening impact on the reader, build credibility for your essay, add humor and make the essay more interesting. The effective uses of quotation augment the power of your arguments and make essays more interesting.
To start my conclusion, I would use strategy number 1. I would conclude my essay by reviewing my keys points or restating my thesis. Your basically sum up all of your points in the essay. Rather like tying up all of the loose ends. You should also refer back to the quotation. And if possible say the positives and negatives of your view. Oh and if possible I would write in a couple of words what the sections were about if you use them in the evidence as the positives and negatives.

Freewriting

Freewriting is an invention activity that many writers may find useful or not useful. Writing usually goes better once you are warmed up. The hardest thing about writing is getting started. The first question that we ask ourselves is “Where to start?”
It is a useful activity because many writers figure that they don’t have to worry about the rules of Standard English. When I was freewriting I was writing for about 10 minutes I was just jotting down ideas about my topic. It is “Free” meaning that I turn off all my concerns about grammar, punctuation, spelling, and complete sentences that could make any sense. Freewriting is also useful cause once I was finished writing I was able to put all my thoughts together to form a good paper. I think Ms. Tyler for giving us the opportunity to use the class time to freewrite about our topic. Freewriting is another way of brainstorming your topic. Freewriting about your topic comes from off the top of my head.
Freewriting has absolutely no rules. Freewriting often is a series of disjointed ramblings that make little sense. This was a very useful activity. Some activity that I try to help me better enhance my writing skill wasn’t useful as freewriting.
